How long can my career break be?

Answer

A career break will normally last between three months and two years. In exceptional cases, and where practicable, a career break of less than three months or more than two years may be taken by mutual agreement.

The start and end dates of the career break must be clearly defined and will be by mutual agreement between the University and the employee.

The duration of any career break must take into consideration any operational requirements, outstanding work activities and alternative staffing arrangements.
