Can I extend my career break?

Where a career break is agreed, there is no automatic entitlement to an extension of the break. If an employee wishes to apply for an extension to a career break, they should do so in writing to their line manager at least 3 months in advance of the agreed return to work date. It is recognised that there may be circumstances beyond an employee’s control which prevent them from adhering to this timescale and line managers should consider requests accordingly.
